Why Gut Feelings Exists
This clinic grew out of seeing the same pattern again and again—patients whose symptoms didn’t fit neatly into one box, and who deserved more than quick answers.
We built this clinic for people whose symptoms don't fit neatly into boxes—and for those tired of waiting for the healthcare system to catch up.
Gut Feelings Psychosomatic Medicine is an interventional psychiatry practice in Oakland, CA focused on people whose depression, anxiety, or trauma hasn't responded to "meds and a quick check-in" alone. We combine medication management, TMS, ketamine/Spravato, stellate ganglion block, and mind–body care to help you feel better faster—and we fight the insurance battles so you don't have to.
- Interventional psychiatry when meds aren't enough
- We handle insurance, prior auths, and appeals
- Multi-state licensed, effective, evidence-based, human-centered care

My Story: From the ER to Upstream Care
Early in my training, I was working in the emergency department and kept seeing the same pattern: patients arriving in crisis—panic attacks, suicidal ideation, psychosomatic pain—whose problems had been building for months or years. Many had mental health issues intertwined with physical symptoms. Others had gut problems that were worsening their anxiety and depression. As Hippocrates said, so much starts in the gut. When the body breaks down, the mind often follows—and vice versa.
I realized I could make a bigger impact by working upstream—keeping people out of the ER, out of crisis, and out of the cycle of "try another medication and wait." Sometimes that requires medicine. Sometimes it requires a new perspective, a reorientation to one's body and mind, whether through interventional treatments like TMS or ketamine, integrative care, or talk therapy.
That's when I knew: I could do better by my patients by focusing on interventional psychiatry while still drawing on the principles of medicine to treat the whole person—not just the mind.
But I wasn't just filling a gap in psychiatry. I was filling a gap in our healthcare system. We work hard to make the system work better for people—helping with referrals, fighting insurance company denials, customizing what can be covered, and being aggressive with prior authorizations and appeals. We can't solve every problem, but we try to make a broken system work for you.
What This Means for Your Care
You Won't Be Rushed
We take the time needed to understand your story, your patterns, and what's maintaining the problem.
We Treat the Whole System
Sleep, digestion, stress physiology, trauma, and mood are addressed together—not in silos.
We Fight the Insurance Battles
Prior authorizations, appeals, coverage questions—we handle it so you can focus on healing.
We Use Advanced Options Thoughtfully
TMS, ketamine, Spravato, and stellate ganglion block are integrated into a bigger plan—never "tech for tech's sake."
You'll Get Clinical Clarity
You'll leave with a plan you can understand and act on, not vague next steps.
We Measure Real-Life Outcomes
Energy, relationships, work, sleep, motivation—not just symptom scales.

What Patients Say
"After carefully evaluating my situation, he correctly diagnosed my episode and began treating my depression with the right medication and TMS. A few months later, it was as if a switch had flipped… I felt like myself again."
— Gizem T., TMS patient
"I've been battling anxiety and depression since childhood, and TMS is one of the few treatment options I feel is making a significant difference. I'm noticing significant changes in mood, perspective, and social motivation."
— Oliver O.
"Unlike every psychiatrist I've had, Dr. Mike still hasn't given up on me after trying several treatments. He told me we're working towards 'complete remission.' I laughed because I've never heard that from any of my prior practitioners."
— Elizabeth L.
"Dr. Mike and his team far exceeds expectations of any health care service. I'm halfway through treatment and am noticing significant changes in mood, perspective and also social motivation. All in all I highly recommend."
— Joseph B.
