After carefully evaluating my situation, he correctly diagnosed my episode as substance-induced (triggered by weed) and linked it to my suppressed grief over losing my parents. As soon as he took me off bipolar meds, my suicidal thoughts disappeared. He then began treating my depression with the right medication, and I started feeling more functional and in control of my life.
However, I struggled with taking medication regularly, and to be honest, I didn’t want to rely on meds long-term. Unlike other doctors who might have just prescribed more medications, Dr. Hoaglin suggested an alternative—Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). The idea of daily treatments for two months sounded intimidating at first, but each session was painless, lasted only 15–20 minutes, and he even put on my favorite show to make it more enjoyable.
During the TMS treatment, I didn’t notice any immediate changes, but a few months later, something incredible happened I woke up one day, and it was as if a switch had flipped. My anxiety, depression, and procrastination were completely gone! I felt like myself again—smiling more, being more active, and engaging better in my social relationships.
One of the most surprising effects of the treatment was overcoming my long-standing struggle with smoking. For six years, I had difficulty quitting both tobacco and weed. After TMS, not only did I quit effortlessly, but I also can’t even stand being around smoke anymore!
If you’re struggling with depression, I highly recommend Dr. Hoaglin and TMS. My only advice—based on personal experience—is to be patient. You might not feel a change right away but trust the process. It will happen!
Thank you, Dr. Hoaglin, for giving me my life back! 🙌
After nearly 20 years of disappointing psychiatric providers, I recognize that Dr. Mike is exceptional. I know that I am very lucky to have an intelligent, compassionate, and driven psychiatrist who, despite the difficulty in treating my conditions, has not given up
The office staff is amazing (Mary and Wayne) are so incredibly generous, warm, and unguarded, and always make a special effort to come say hi when I’m in the office.
Working with Dr. Mike is great because he is thorough, listens well, is very insightful, and is easy to talk too. It’s relaxed but very professional with good attention to detail. He’s also not afraid to challenge your assumptions and does so very respectfully - which I really appreciate.
Dr. Mike is a great partner in working out the best path forward and creates confidence in the process. I have benefited from my time at Gut Feelings and learned so much about the gut/mind connection. And most importantly I feel better. Highly recommended.
What most struck me, though, was his approachability and sincere concern. I contacted Dr. Hoaglin late one night out of fear for a medical emergency. He soon saw me in his office and made sure I would get immediate attention by going with me to the emergency room.
While antidepressants have helped many people since the 1980s, they don’t work for everyone. NeuroStar TMS therapy offers a different approach—it’s not a medication, but a non-invasive treatment that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate key areas of the brain involved in mood regulation.
